The Link Between Stress Relief and Exercise

In our today’s society, everything is so fast paced that one is always on the move, everyday hold a new commitment for us and at the same time trying to juggle a lot of things at once that you are vaguely aware of when the red buttons telling you to slow down are on. A Latin maxim once said “mens sana in corpore sano” meaning that a healthy mind is in a healthy body. Therefore when your body has been stretched so far and is under so much stress you realize that at that point you are not able to function properly and your mental alertness decreases. That why we are always advised to slow down.

In a society like ours exercising is not a very common thing, but it is something that should be strongly encouraged, because the more often a person exercises, the more he/she is less vulnerable to stress and any other ailment. Exercises helps to clear the mind, ease all the tension one faces daily. The more often you exercise the more often your body releases endorphins which act as natural pain killers in your body. Also these endorphins act as mood killer keeping your spirits high all day. This are all natural chemical substances in your body keeping you stress free, unlike having to result into taking all forms of pills and medications to alleviate stress which still results in side effects which don’t do any good in the body.

Furthermore, cardiovascular exercises helps you to remain more emotionally balanced at all times, basically they are breathing exercises which keeps you stable at all times and when under stress or pressure. When you engage yourself in that exercise you most comfortable with you sweat out all the heat and worries, feeling more refreshed, less tensed and stressed and you momentarily forget about all the cares and worried of that time. That’s why, exercise and stress relief go hand in hand. There are a lot of benefits to gain when you decide to engage in exercises and they are;

1. They help to release certain hormones such as the endorphin which helps you to relax. Feel less tensed, elevate your mood and act as a pain killer.
2. They help to release all the built up tension a person acquires as a result of a hectic day.
3. Exercising enables a person to meet other individuals who go through the same thing as you are; it creates an avenue to share ideas on various ways of easing stress.
4. Exercising also helps one to ease all the emotional problems or tension they maybe going through both at work and home.

For those beginning, you could always start out with just some few minutes then gradually as your body adjusts you can increase the time duration which you use to exercise. This in the long run changes the whole outlook of the person you are. There are various exercises you can engage in, it could be a brisk walk or run early in the morning, an afternoon swim or tennis in the evening. Or at all times you could practice your regulated breathing exercise. All this will really help you in staying fit mentally and physically and most of all keep you stress free.
